An Apology
alright, I am sorry for pulling out the cheese and pasting
some lyrics as my first post, but this song is the mood I
have been in lately.  Also, I must also apologize to my
good friends over at NBS (Nick and Dave), but their blog is
fun to read, so, again, I decided to copy them.

Now that my apologies are over, who the hell am I?  Why are
you reading this?  I am currently a master's student in
mathematics at the University of Michigan.  I have a degree
in nuclear engineering, but, really, who needs a good paying
job when studying math is an alternative.  You know, drinking
tea and working on things that only a small percentage of
people in the world will ever have any use for.

You can probably detect an ounce of uncertainty in my
studies.  In short the story is this, I love math and
love learning its history, new problems, new fields...
but apparently I am not very good at it.  My classes
this semester, and the work involved, could probably
be summed up by imagining yourself sitting down to eat
a whole elephant.  But added to that is the elephant
eating instructor who only tells you how horrible of
an elephant eater you are while the other elephant
eaters are scarfing down the whole damn thing just
like one would a fried ear at a carnival.  It is
definitely more than a little discouraging.

Speaking of discouraging...  I am watching the MSU
-Illinois game.  The Notre Dame-MSU game last week...
that, again, was discouraging.  I will assume, for the
sake of argument, that MSU pulls through this afternoon;
next week is the big game against Michigan.  Now, being
a "wolverine", the Michigan-Michigan State game is
biggest game of the year. If MSU can take out these
wolverines, that would provide me with bragging rights
for a whole year. That would be awesome.  Drew Stanton
needs to stop sucking though.  Through the end of the ND
game and through this game he has looked like crap.

*POST SCRIPT NOTE*
Yeah, MSU lost to Illinois.  Dave A-Ys "dream" came
through. And,for those of you who follow MSU football...
Now that they have lost one game they hunger for more.
I would not be surprised if they did not win another game
this season.  That might be a bit much, but considering
they play Michigan, then Ohio St. and then Penn St. their
spirits will be soaring for more losses.  We let a couple
wins slip in, but now that we got our first loss, we
should be set for the season.  Woo!  John L. is great!
But, I still love my spartans... even though I go to
Michigan, and I will keep rooting for them... even when
they lose to Michigan.  Shit, man.  Why cannot I
just be a Michigan fan???

That's about it for now.  Some things you can look
forward to in the future are more ramblings, a stab
or two at a recent cryptography article, or math proof
that is just too beautiful to not talk about.  So
